Address Resolution Protocol (ARP)
The Address Resolution Protocol, known as ARP, is used to translate a machine address to a network address, and the other way around. It is used on LAN networks, by storing a ARP table, which maps each host's MAC address, it's physical address, to it's IP address - generally a temporarily assigned address.
