DOM-X
The DOM-X player, also known as DOMX, or DOM player, is a piece of fake software, distributed by copyright tracking organisations in order to trick those illegally downloading copyrighted films into installing tracking software. Other fake software, under the same name, is also distributed by phishing groups, requiring a small payment.
The copyright infringer first downloads a fake film, which when viewed states that additional software is required, providing a website address. At this address, sometimes following payment, the fake software can be downloaded and installed, potentially installing a backdoor trojan, and other malware.
