National ANPR Data Centre

The National ANPR Data Centre stores and analyses all data from the National ANPR CCTV network, in the National ANPR Database.

It is based at the same location as the Police National Computer, in Hendon in North London. When last reported, in March 2006, the National ANPR Data Centre could record fifty million number plates per day, and was to be expanded to one-hundred million per day by 2008. The details recorded include time, date and place of each vehicle.

Police officers have access to the data recorded, and also to real-time data, but it is unclear how this is carried out - it has been quoted that giving every officer unrestricted access would slow the system down too much. MI5 receive unrestricted access to the National ANPR Database.
