RIPv2

Routing Information Protocol version 2 is a classless, Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP), using a distance vector routing algorithm.

As RIPv2 is classless, allowing inter-domain routing, which allows Variable Length Subnet Masking (VLSM) to be used, to minimise wasted address space. RIPv2 also adds authentication for routing updates using either plain text, or MD5 encryption.

Problems with RIPv2 include it's dependancy on timers, a 15 hop maximum vector, a lack of multiple routes to a destination, and an infinity count.
